SMS - Identifying the SMS Program Version with the Data folder

Question

How do I identify which version of SMS a particular database was last used on if I only have the Data folder?

Answer

  • Copy the Data folder to your system.
  • Using the DBBrowser.exe browse to the Store Information Database table.
  • Locate the Version field. This field is the actual database version # and not the program number.
  • Compare the database version # to the list below to identify which Major version the database was last used on. This method will not identify the exact version # but will tell you the major release #.

Database Version

The version # listed below is for the very last version of a particular SMS release. You'll have to match up where the version # falls in the range below.
  • SMS v2000 has a [Store Information Database].Version <= 5.0006
  • SMS v8.0 has a [Store Information Database].Version > 5.0006
  • SMS v8.6 has a [Store Information Database].Version <= 8.5012
  • SMS v8.9 has a [Store Information Database].Version <= 9.2101
  • SMS v8.9pci has a [Store Information Database].Version <= 9.3003

Beginning with SMS 8.9 there is an additional field labeled AppVersion that exists in the [Store Information Database] table. This field stores the exact program version that was last used to open the database.

Alternate check

  • SMS V > 8.6 have [Customer Database].CCNumber
  • SMS V8.9 has [Deleted Database]

Version Information

  • Entered : 08/22/2013
