What Anti-Virus applications have known issues with Cyrious?

1. Make sure it does not have a separate firewall that is preventing connection to the database.

2. It should not be scanning files within the Cyrious folder while people are working in the system.

3. If you are backing up the database, make sure you are using Volume Shadow Copy Service.

Without the need for special configurations

  • Microsoft Security Essentials www.microsoft.comen-ussafetypc-securitymicrosoft-security-essentials.aspx- Windows 7 and Vista
  • Windows Defender www.microsoft.comen-ussafetypc-securitywindows-defender.aspx- Windows 8 and beyond
    • These are managed completely by Microsoft.
  • AVG www.avg.comus-enhomepage
    • Disable Link Scanner and Online Shield components in order for C3S to function on server.
    • Disable when updating Control from a release prior to 5.6.1510.2102 or else CHAPI may not update due to the switch to a Local System Account. It may be best to disable altogether when updating Control.
  • Norton 2011 Anti-Virus norton.com
    • Have to disable Auto-Protect and SONAR Protection in order for Cyrious to run on client machines. This is due to Norton not allowing exclusions on files located in shared network folders.
  • Norton 360
    • Have to disable Auto-Protect and SONAR Protection in order for Cyrious to run on client machines. This is due to Norton not allowing exclusions on files located in shared network folders.
  • Kaspersky www.kaspersky.com
    • Have to add exclusion for Control.exe on client machines and server.
    • Have to add exclusion in firewall on server for ports the SSLIP and SQL Server operate on; without the change clients will not be able to connect.
    • Mail antivirus protection will block Control from sending email using Internal mail settings.
  • McAfee www.mcafee.comusindex.html
    • Have to add exclusion in firewall on server for ports the SSLIP and SQL Server operate on; without the change clients will not be able to connect.
    • This also has been known to make the server unable to be pinged by a client machine.
    • Firewall and live scanning must be disabled in order to run SMS installer.
    • Remote Desktop Ports are disabled by default and will need to be enabled in McAfee's firewall for access. (Example ports for RDP may include 135, 3389, and 3390)
  • Avast www.avast.com
    • 7-9-2015 We found that Avast runs a check against data transfer the first time a connection is made. This is generally not a problem as it is not very resource intensive, however when running Avast on a machine at base minimum specs (noteably below spec on network connection) The check can cause a moment of overburdening the system causing a save to fail and generate a Cannot communicate with SSLIP error. What makes this unique and more difficult to troubleshoot is that once the connection (to the server for SSLIP) is established as benign and Avast no longer checks it (until a reboot) it will only be a problem for the first data connection (in this case first PO saved) but will allow others without issue shortly after with no real changes to be made.
    • May cause a severe flicker with a LogMeIn rescue connection. Disabling this temporarily while remote Technical Support work is performed will stop this from happening or continuing.
  • Vipre www.vipreantivirus.com
    • The Cyrious directory with executables as well as all executables within MSSQL\BIN folder must be added to the Vipre firewall exception list in order to allow communication with the database.
  • UAC windows.microsoft.comen-uswindowswhat-is-user-account-control_1tcwindows-7
    • SSLIP (among other executables) will not run at Windows Startup, even if configured to do so, if it is set to Run as Administrator. You must disable this setting in the Compatibility Options of SSLIP.exe or disable UAC altogether.
  • Microsoft SmartScreen
    • When using later versions of Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge you may run into issues when downloading Updates or other files from Cyrious if Microsoft SmartScreen is enabled (Windows 8 and newer)
    • To get past this, select More info on the initial prompt. Then select Run anyway.
