Explanation

SMS and Control clients access the SSLIP using two ports, UDP 2868 and TCP 2879.If the PortOffset option is used, the port offset it added to these numbers and the correct ports are UDP (2868+Offset) and TCP (2879+Offset). However, the user of a Port offset prevents the use of the Client Launcher and causes other problems and IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. Clients communicate on these ports to locate the SSLIP and obtain information about the database location and location of the SMS or Control EXE.

Normally, the firewall ports are normallly opened by the installer. However, if they need to be manually opened, the process below can be used.

Tier 1 Actions

  1. From Control Panel, open Windows Firewall.
  2. Click on the Advanced Settings link on the left. This will open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
  3. Click Inbound Rules on the left.
  4. Click New Rule … on the right menu.
  5. Allow TCP port 2879 through the firewall.
    1. Select Port and click next.
    2. Select TCP and enter 2879 as the specific port and click next.
    3. Select Allow The Connection and click next.
    4. Check All the boxes and click next.
    5. Enter “SSLIP TCP 2879” as the name and click next.
    6. Click Finish
  6. Allow UDP port 2868 through the firewall.
    1. Select Port and click next.
    2. Select UDP and enter 2868 as the specific port and click next.
    3. Select Allow The Connection and click next.
    4. Check All the boxes and click next.
    5. Enter “SSLIP UDP 2868” as the name and click next.
    6. Click Finish
  7. Allow TCP port 12556 through the firewall.
    1. Select Port and click next.
    2. Select TCP and enter 12556 as the specific port and click next.
    3. Select Allow The Connection and click next.
    4. Check All the boxes and click next.
    5. Enter “CHAPI TCP Port” as the name and click next.
    6. Click Finish
  8. Close the firewall setup screens.
  9. Recheck that the SSLIP can be accessed remotely.
