===== Problem ===== Unable to print from any application from an RDP client session to a locally installed HP Printer. It appears to print but is never seen in the print spooler. Specfic HP models are not compatible with printing from RDP sessions (more info below). ===== Solution ===== The solution was to change the driver from the default driver for that printer to a generic driver (HP Laserjet 4). 1. Open **Devices and Printers** in the **Control Panel**. 2. Right click on the printer and select **Printer Properties**. 3. Click the **Advanced** tab. 4. Click the Driver drop down. 5. if **HP Laserjet 4** is listed skip ahead to step 12. Otherwise, click the **New Driver** button. (Alternatively, you can try the PCL 5 driver if the printer is PCL 5 compatible. See below) 6. Click **Next**. 7. Click **Windows Update** button. It may take a few minutes to download the list of drivers. 8. In the Manufacturer list, scroll down and select **HP**. 9. In the Printer list, scroll down and select **HP Laserjet 4**. 10. Click **Next**. 11. Click **Finish**. 12. Ensure that **HP Laserjet 4** is selected in the Driver drop down on the Printer Properties Advanced Tab. 13. Click **Ok**. 14. Close and Re-start the RDP session. A reboot of the local PC may be required. 15. You should be able to print now. **Note:** Some of the functionality of the printer may not work when using this generic printer driver. If the printer is PCL 5 compatible, you can try using this driver: [[http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=503484&lang=en&cc=us|HP Universal Print Driver for Windows - PCL 5]] ===== More information on Specific HP Printer Models ===== Many consumer-oriented HP Printers do not support printing from RDP sessions.
