SMS Error

Unable to connect to one of the system databases.

This Error happens when the SMS client cannot connect to either of the Access System Databases (SMSSystemData.mdb, SMSStoreData.mdb and SMSSystemConfig.mdb). These databases holds the menus, reports, security rights, and other key information used by SMS.

High. The user is down on the client connected to the server.

The most common source of problems are all in the sharing and permissions area. The files are located on the server but must be accessible from the client.

  1. Check the file sharing options.
    • On the server, go to the Cyrious folder (usually C:\Program Files\Cyrious)
    • Right click on the folder and choose Sharing.
    • Check that the Sharing is setup and Cyrious$ is the share name.
    • Check the permissions on the Share. Make sure “Everyone” is in the list and has full Control.
  2. Check that the SSLIP can access the System Databases
    • Open the SSLIP
    • Choose Database Manager.
    • Select the SMS System Database Group. Expand it.
    • Test the connection for each database item under the group.
  3. Ensure that the SMSSystemData.mdb, SMSStoreData.mdb and SMSSystemConfig.mdb are not actually missing in the Cyrious folder
    • Right click on the Cyrious SMS shortcut
    • Select Properties
    • Click the “Find Target” button
    • Look to ensure that the SMSSystemData.mdb, SMSStoreData.mdb and SMSSystemConfig.mdb are in the folder
