SMS Database Errors

SMS utilizes a Paradox database for most of its information, though some of the more recently added information is stored in a Microsoft Access Database. Neither of these databases are server-based databases, meaning each client must open the files and process any necessary information. Because of this, they have many “hands in the pot” when being accessed by multiple clients and are inherently less stable than server-based databases (like Microsoft SQL Server).

Network reliability is extremely important to the stability of the database. Most database problems are the result of some network unreliability, though finding the source of the problem is the IT equivalent to a needle in a moving haystack.
