SMS Client Install - DEPRECATES

This is the old client installation procedure. Refer to SMS1 - Client Install for the current (and much simpler) process.

Client Install

A: Items Required to Complete Install

B: Obtaining the SMS Downloadable Installer

  1. Visit the customer support site Cyrioussoftware
  2. Log in with your username and password.

Note: To successfully download installations you must have a technical support agreement.

  1. Once on the website, click on Tech Support and then Downloads to load a list of available downloads.
  2. Locate the download for the SMS Full Installation and download this file to your desktop. You may then place this file on any system you wish to install with Cyrious SMS.

C: Installation

  1. To start the installation, insert the SMS Installation CD. An auto-run installation menu should appear, if it does not please browse to your CD/DVD Drive and double click on SMS Setup.exe.

Note: If you are using a downloadable installer browse to the location you stored the install file and double-click the **SMS Setup.exe** to begin the installation.

  1. Follow the setup the on screen instructions.
    • At type of installation: Choose Client.
    • When prompted to select the location of the server, choose Entire Network under My Network Places.
    • Then choose Microsoft Windows Network.
    • Select the appropriate WorkGroup of where your server is located.
    • Finally select the computer name that houses the server installation of Cyrious.
    • Finish the installation by following the on-screen prompts.
    • When it ask you to restart the computer, select No. I will restart my computer later.
  2. You should now have a shortcut on the desktop of the client computer. You may test Cyrious SMS by double clicking on this shortcut.
  3. You can further test the installation by opening some orders, estimates, customer records, etc.
  4. As a final test you should verify that you can preview the invoice or estimate reports, as well as print and save them.
  5. Finally, configure the sms_issue_-_constant_db_corruption settings appropriately. This is recommended to help reduce the likelihood of index corruption issues that can result when database connections are dropped due to power management settings.

Alternate Installation Method: Installing from the SMS Downloadble Installer via a Network Share.

Rather than having to copy the installation files to each computer you can place the installation files on the server for Cyrious then access that file through a network share. This enables you to run the installation through the network, this is typically the preferred method for users familiar with network sharing because it cuts down on the time involved to handle multiple installations.

  1. Place the SMS Setup.exe you downloaded in the Cyrious installation folder on the server. The default path of this folder is C:\Program Files\Cyrious\ however this path may be different if you chose a different folder during the installation of your server.
  2. Obtain computer name of the server, you'll need this so you can access the installer from your client machines.
    1. On the server right click on the My Computer icon.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. Click on the Computer Name tab.
    4. Make note of the name where it says Full Computer name.
  3. From the client machine, click on Start | Run and enter \\%computername%\Cyrious$\
    1. The SMS Setup.exe file should be in this folder.
    2. Double click on SMS Setup.exe to begin the installation then follow the steps in part C above.
